Overall Purpose:
Improving the quality of delivered healthcare requires
objective evaluation of medical errors. Self examination is
easier with a structured process to follow, such as the Joint
Commission mandated Root Cause Analysis (RCA) process.
Professionals who learn this process will be able to
objectively address clinical errors in their workplace and thus
contribute to healthcare quality improvement. This
presentation reviews the current healthcare industry
standard for a RCA process.
This knowledge can also be utilized during a professional's
career development while pursuing certification in healthcare
quality (CPHQ).
