Overall Purpose:
Performance improvement activities require input from the
customer and CMS has recently standardized a national data
collection tool. This activity presents an overview of that tool,
the Healthcare Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers
and Systems (HCAHPS).
Nurses can use data from this tool to contribute to healthcare
quality improvement. This knowledge can also be utilized
during the nurse’s career development while pursuing
certification in healthcare quality (CPHQ).
Objectives:
After studying the materials, the learner will be able to
- Identify types of questions on the HCAHPS surveys.
- Analyze opportunities for patient satisfaction improvement
by addressing survey administration techniques at the
learner's home facility
